The Campaign is Dead! Long Live the Campaign!

So my group has just finished the first section of Paizo’s Legacy of Fire story path, The Howl of the Carrion King. It went well, with the players clearing the gnolls out of the town of Kelmarane after a bunch of tough fights with characters reaching level 4 by the end. Good fun, but it wasn’t perfect on my side of the DM screen so as I start planning the next campaign I thought it would be good to go over what I thought went well and what didn’t. This isn’t about the module, I will post about that later, this about how I like games to go and how it actually went.

I am embarassed to admit I have no idea who this guy is. I know he is a celebrity of some sort, but no clue why. However, what he is saying in the video about why we play games and community really works for me. RPGs are a shared story we tell with our friends, but they are also a great place to hang out and just be with some great people.

Losing My 0ginity

These posts are normally followed by a discussion of the author’s discovery that 4th edition is either the most evil thing ever or better than sliced bread. I think both opinions are bunk and I will tell you why, I remember losing my 0ginity and it wasn’t pretty. read more »

Dave Arneson’s Passing

I read with sadness about Dave Arneson’s passing this week. I met him a couple of times over the years at the very casual level and he always seemed a very nice guy, very down to earth and honestly enthusiastic.  Between him and Gary Gygax they kicked off a huge part of my life back in 1977 when I stumbled across an ad for D&D somewhere. read more »
