Game Parlor Woodbrige

It is brutally hard to run a good game shop, most are fair to poor, but the Game Parlor guys manage to run two of them in Northern Virginia. The Woodbridge shop is the farthest from me but it is a pretty straight shot down from me and traffic isn’t bad on the weekends. What makes the drive worth it? read more »

A Goblin Factory Goblin

Everyone knows Games Workshop and Wizards of the Coast and most hobby stores carry Reaper’s excellent figures as well, but there are some great smaller companies making excellent figures if you know where to look and these can often be a great value or provide the perfect figure for that hard to find character model. Smaller makers can often be found at hobby shows, but they often can’t afford to be a the big shows so you will have better hunting at the smaller shows or the miniatures focused shows like Historicon or ColdWars, even though these shows have a historical focus, they are great places to find figures of all sorts from many makers. Today I am going to talk about two makers, Megaminis and The Goblin Factory. read more »

The Dragon has a playtest article up today from Martial Power 2 (Subscription to DDI Required) which attempts yet again to get the fighter a little more oomph. Martial Power did give the fighters more choices last fall, but pure fighters are still very rare in the games I run and I think I understand why. Fighters lack color and interest, despite their being massively improved from the ye olden days D&D I used to play. Paladins have a better mark with Divine Challenge, Barbarians do tons more damage and unlike Wizards who start out strong at first level many fighter builds don’t blossom at all until at least mid-way through heroic levels. The Dragon article attempts to give them some more choices, but it relies on feats, which means that once again it will be mid-Heroic before a fighter can really stand out. How can we give a fighter some flavor without really over powering him? Here are some ideas. read more »

Yes, another game site about roleplaying games, miniatures games and other hobby related things. We Need The XP does promise that we will be looking for things that haven’t been covered to death by other sites and when we cover familiar ground we hope it will only be when our take is a bit different from the norm. Real posting will start soon, I hope before the end of March, as we continue to look at site layouts and reveiw some of the material we have on hand. Things to look for are articles on some of the lesser known companies that produce figures for role playing games, we have put together a nice list of companies you may not have heard of with some cool figures, as well as some How To articles on a number of hobby niches.

Welcome
